The conference rooms at The Legacy Group are a pretty hot commodity this time of year. The professional staff at The Legacy Group gears up each year to handle all the clients bringing in their end-of-the-year accounting and tax data.  They not only assist in getting the previous year’s tax return done, but also assist with planning for the current year.

The Legacy Group is administered by Paul Alexander, who is the principal partner and an Enrolled Agent. Many people know Paul from his years at Huntsville/Walker County EMS working as a paramedic and a volunteer firefighter with the Huntsville Fire Department. Paul brings his desire to help people to his position at The Legacy Group. Besides preparing and reviewing all types of tax returns, Paul spends a lot of his time providing IRS representation. As an Enrolled Agent for the firm, he is the main staff person to do representation. Paul is also a fellow with the National Tax Preparers Institute.

The Legacy Group staffs offices in Huntsville and The Woodlands, with a large number of clients in Austin and all over the state. “With electronic media, it’s not hard to do bookkeeping and tax returns for people far away,” says Alexander. The firm prepares tax returns from simple filings for individuals who just don’t trust they know the answers to the questions, all the way to complex returns for corporations, partnerships, trusts, and nonprofits. The staff of 16, which includes six professionals, works hard to stay abreast of all the changes to the Tax Code. The professionals are required to do continuing education annually, and that information gets passed down to the rest of the staff, creating a solid knowledge base for the whole organization.  Speaking of education, it is exciting to see young professionals at The Legacy Group excelling. There are several Sam Houston State graduates working, some of whom started while they were finishing up their studies. Recently, two employees passed all four parts of their Certified Public Accountant exam and are well on their way to getting their licenses.

“We strive to bring a team approach to meeting the client’s expectation,” says Alexander. “The Legacy Group’s mission is to be more about people than numbers, which has a lot to do with our motto, ‘Save assets, grow assets, and leave a legacy’ behind.” For the Legacy team, it’s never been about numbers on a page or assets in a bank account. It’s always been about people. A lot of people see tax returns as a commodity, as something you have to get done. “We don’t see tax returns as a commodity; we want to build a relationship with our clients,” Alexander said. “We will sit in one of our offices and wind up talking about their kids, talking about business trends and what’s going on in their lives. There’s a lot to the relationship we’re trying to build with our clients. That relationship extends to the community.” The Legacy Group also provides services for several causes they care deeply about, including the Good Shepherd Mission and several area Christian camps. They are also big supporters of the Pregnancy Care Center of Huntsville.
